A United States Park Police officer shot and killed Dalaneo Martin, 17, in Washington, D.C. on March 18, 2023. The time was around 9 a.m. when officers noticed a stolen white SUV parked on the side of the road. Officers had previously ran the tag that identified the vehicle was stolen.
Dalaneo was the driver of the vehicle, he was asleep.
Officers then opened the unlocked car doors and grabbed Dalaneo, but Dalaneo was able to put the car into gear and speed off.
One officer falls to the ground after being dragged by the SUV. Another officer is still inside the SUV with Dalaneo as he drives down the street.
The officer in the SUV with Dalaneo tells him to stop the vehicle. Dalaneo continues to drive.
The officer in the back seat then fires at Dalaneo 5 times, killing him. Dalaneo dead and at the wheel then crashes into a brick house.
Officers pull Dalaneo out of the SUV and begin life saving aid, but Dalaneo died at the scene. A gun was found in the SUV.
A civil rights investigation is now underway. No officers have been charged with a crime.
