Around 11:40 p.m. shots were fired at Michael and he was hit at the apartment complex. Paramedics arrived on site and pronounced Michael deceased.

Both suspects were interviewed by homicide detectives weeks after the murder; at the conclusion of the interview the suspects were transferred into the custody of the jail.
Makayla was charged with Murder (1st degree) and Conspiracy to Commit Murder. Marod was charged with Murder (1st degree), Conspiracy to Commit Murder and Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon.
