23-year-old Zaria McKeever was murdered on November 8, 2022 in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. Her ex-boyfriend Erick Haynes, 23, is charged with Zaria’s murder. A 15 and 17 year-old juvenile were also charged with Zaria’s murder.
Zaria broke up with Erick and he did not take it very well. Zaria then got a new boyfriend, and Erick got extremely angry and jealous.
Erick had been threatening and harassing Zaria for weeks after the break up. Erick is accused of giving a gun to two juveniles, ages 15 and 17 to break into Zaria’s apartment and murder Zaria and her new boyfriend.
On November 8, 2022 at 2:30 a.m. Erick allegedly drove the 2 juveniles to Zaria’s apartment. Cops say Erick stayed in the car while the juveniles kicked in Zaria’s apartment door.
Zaria’s new boyfriend heard the commotion and jumped from the second story bedroom window. Zaria had to fend for herself alone.
Zaria confronted the intruders, and the juveniles shot and killed her. The juveniles then ran and got in the waiting vehicle that Erick was allegedly driving.
When police arrived, they found Zaria on the ground with a gunshot wound to her lower abdomen. Officers attempted life saving measures, but she was pronounced dead.
Multiple bullet holes were throughout the apartment, near the bedroom and bathroom. There was also damage to the frame of the door, indicating a forced entry.
Erick and the juveniles were later arrested within 24 hours. They are are all charged with second degree murder.
