After a three week trial, on October 3, 2022 a jury has found Carlton Benbow, 49, not guilty of the murder of 46-year-old Reginald Lawrence that occurred in Charlotte, NC. Reginald was visiting Charlotte from New York.

Carlton who lived at the complex, came outside and approached the group. An argument ensued. Carlton fatally shot Reginald and then fired at Reginald’s child but missed.
At trial, Carlton claimed he acted in self defense.
The Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Homicide Team tried Carlton for first degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The jury found him guilty of the lesser included offense of voluntary manslaughter, assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Carlton was found not guilty of murder.
Carlton was sentenced to 67-93 months in prison.
