The Department of Homeland Security, along with special agents discovered a 183-foot long subterranean drug tunnel in Mexicali, Baja California, near the international border on August 2, 2021.

United States special agents found the tunnel inside of a residence near the United States Mexican border. It was determined that a drug trafficking organization dug the approximate 4-foot by 3-foot tunnel nearly 22 feet beneath the ground.
The tunnel, which has an entrance measuring 12 feet by 10 feet extends 3 feet north of the United States border wall, but has no exit on the U.S. side of the border.
The latino drug cartel equipped the tunnel with electricity, ventilation, a rail system with a cart, and an electric hoist.
