A fatal crash killed Officer Mia Goodwin, 33, on I-85 in Charlotte, NC on December 22, 2021 at 3 in the morning. Three trucks were involved in the crash. Mia was hit by an 18-wheeler truck. Mia was a cop with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department. <\/p>\n

The initial crash was on December 21, 2021 on Interstate 85 at the West W.T. Harris overpass at 10:37 p.m. The accident involved an overturned semi-truck with a trailer that spilled loads of grain onto the Interstate. <\/p>\n

North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded along with the Charlotte Fire Department to assist with a potential hazardous material. All I-85 lanes were shut down to allow the North Carolina Department of Transportation to clear the roadway of the debris. <\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

At 1:03 a.m., a travel lane was opened to allow southbound traffic to bypass the accident. Traffic cones were deployed around the work crew and police vehicles with emergency equipment activated, supposedly. <\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

But hours later at 3:39 a.m., a large semi-truck collided with a second semi-truck, the crash caused the trucks to hit multiple Charlotte Mecklenburg Police vehicles. <\/p>\n

Mia was hit during the wreck and badly injured. Mia was pronounced dead on scene. In addition, 3 other CMPD officers were transported to Atrium Main Hospital where they were treated. <\/p>\n

In 2021 Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Officer Julio Herrera died.<\/a><\/p>\n

29-year-old Police Officer Ella French was shot in the head and killed on duty.<\/a><\/p>\n

A TSA agent was murdered in front of her daughter during a shooting.<\/a> <\/p>\n
