A teenager has been charged with attempted murder after shooting a police officer on December 27, 2021 at apartments on Winged Elm Court Charlotte, NC. <\/p>\n
The attempted murder was around 7 in the morning. Officers were dispatched to a larceny from vehicle in progress call on Winged Elm Court at apartments. <\/p>\n
The caller also advised that the suspect had pointed a firearm at a nearby citizen. Responding officers made contact with the suspect, who fled on foot. During a brief foot chase, the teenage suspect fired at the pursuing officers, striking one of the officers in the upper body. <\/p>\n
The officer returned fire, but the teenage suspect was not struck by gunfire. The teenager was quickly arrested and taken into custody.<\/p>\n
The shot officer was transported to an area hospital and was treated for non life threatening injuries. <\/p>\n
As is standard procedure with any officer involved shooting, the Internal Affairs Bureau will conduct a separate but parallel investigation to determine whether police policies and procedures were adhered to during the incident. <\/p>\n
The officer will be placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard policy whenever an officer discharges a service weapon.<\/p>\n
